Great for parties with some minor drawbacks.

Bottom Line
If you’re in the market for a portable speaker with great bass depth, crisp highs, and the ability to get extremely loud, the JBL Boombox 3 is a great option. However, it’s important to keep in mind that it is a heavy speaker and is on the more expensive end of the spectrum. Additionally, it only supports the SBC codec. Despite these drawbacks, the JBL Boombox 3 is still an excellent choice for those looking for a high-quality portable speaker.

Design
When it comes to its design, the Boombox 3 may have added a few inches to its waistline, but it somehow grew a handle! Alright, I may be exaggerating but this speaker now has an (arguably) stylish metal carrying handle. If you’re not into it, don’t worry, I’m kinda meh about it too. My only gripe is that this model did away with the previously available shoulder strap that the Xtreme 3 had – though lugging around 14.7 pounds is nowhere near impossible. Still, this marks a weighty increase from both the Boombox 2 (13 pounds) and the first Boombox model (11 1/2 pounds)! No wonder they thought everyone could use an extra hand.

Sound
If you’re looking for a tune-in that can take you to the next level, then look no further than the Boombox 3 speaker setup! It’s got all the bells and whistles you love in its predecessors, like dual 4-inch frontward firing woofers and dual 3-quarter inch frontward firing tweeters and passive radiators. But in addition to those rockin’ features, this cutting-edge option has swapped out the mids for even better 3.2-inch frontward firing woofers – talk about an upgrade – whilst keeping the same trusty rear passive radiators on both sides and dual frontward firing tweeters, just stacked atop one another for maximum sound efficiency. So, don’t be afraid of getting your groove on with this tricked-out tech master, I guarantee it’ll have you moving in no time.
Dust and Water Protection
The JBL Boombox 3 is an IPX7 rated portable speaker. This means that it is protected from water, dust, and other elements. It can withstand being submerged in up to 1 meter of water for 30 minutes without any damage to the device or its components. This rating makes the speaker particularly attractive when it comes to outdoor use and beach parties, as you don’t have to worry about it getting wet.
App Experience
The JBL Boombox 3 app is an intuitive and easy-to-use mobile application that allows users to take full control of the speaker. It features a simple, easy-to-navigate interface with customizable sound settings. Additionally, users can easily access their music library or streaming services for playback on the Boombox 3. The app is available on both primary mobile platforms – Android and iPhone.

Battery Life
The JBL Boombox 3 is equipped with a massive 10,000mAh battery, so you can expect to get up to 24 hours of continuous playback on a single charge. In my test the battery did perform quite well, it lasted almost 23 full hours, not quite what the manufacturer promised but still very impressive. When the battery does eventually run out, it can be fully recharged in approximately 6.5 hours.
